On November 17, 2007, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) band students Fredrick L. Warren, Terrell Murckson, Antoine Neal, Darshun Cash, and several other band students decided to put this idea to work.
In the Fall of 2008, an individual contacted Fredrick L. Warren in hopes to gather people for a Memphis band banquet. Being unsure about the individual's true intentions Fredrick cautiously but furthered conversations. The individual, then informed Fredrick he was trying to form a band organization for people from Memphis. Afterward, Fredrick informed the man of what was already in place at University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and they both decided to move forward with Tau Epsilon Nu. Later an intercollegiate meeting was held on December 20, 2008, within the band room of A. Maceo Walker Middle School in Memphis, TN.
After this idea was presented, several students from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Jackson State University, Grambling State University, Alabama State University, Tennessee State University, and Alabama A&M University decided to officially embark on this organization.
